Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update from AYL The AYL Basketball League hopes this email finds you safe and in good health. The AYL board has been meeting regularly since last July in trying to develop and manage the 2020-2021 basketball season. Due to the known state, county and school district restrictions we have postponed the season several times since our annual start time in November. Given the current state of all school districts affiliated with AYL being in the Orange Covid status and the denial of many permits by several schools, we have decided to cancel the 2020-2021 winter basketball season.
Basketball is one of two sports that is played indoors which holds us to more restricted and unfortunate parameters. We understand many other leagues are starting up soon with strict limitations in place however more than 98% of our league games are played at schools versus recreation centers and private facilities.
However, the AYL board is excited to announce that we will be implementing a new league for summer 2021. We are looking to begin the season in May with first games being played on June 5th through the end of July. We are anticipating games being played in High School and Middle School gyms for grade levels 2nd through 8th. Players who complete 8th grade this school year will be eligible to participate on an 8th grade team for the Summer League only. We also plan to have our 2021-2022 season begin in November 2021. More to come on this so please check with your club for more information.
The AYL would like to thank you all for your interest and patience as we all try to get through these trying times. Our goal is to create a fun, healthy and safe environment for all of our kids and coaches.
